Bus & Coaches are budget alternatives to car hire & air travel in Karamoja. Their are daily scheduled service stopping in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Soroti, Iriri, Moroto, Kotido and Kaabong.
If you’re travelling with a group, charter coach companies have the flexibility to adapt to your itinerary. It’s possible to get a guide specialised in Karamoja on board as well, so you’ll have the added benefit of a commentary if you want one.
Gateway coaches
Kampala-Moroto: Gateway Coaches bus service leaves Moroto at 8pm and arrives in Kampala between 5-8am every day. Ask your accommodation to assist with booking of your seat and make sure to be seated at least 2 hours before departure from Moroto. The coach leaves Kampala at 4am, but due the high demand we strongly advice to personally book your seat from 10pm. The bus arrives in Moroto town at 4-6pm.
Kampala-Kotido: The daily bus from Kampala to Kotido leaves at 5am and takes approximately 15 hours to reach Kotido.
